Miami, FL. April1st, 2016. FUNDarte presents Out In The Tropics 2016, a week-long event featuring artists who address gender, sexuality and issues of interest to the art community and their allies. Now in its seventh year, the series runs from June 15 – 18, 2016 in Miami Beach and features public performances, panel, workshops, master classes and artist-talks serving various sectors of the community. Out in the Tropics will present five distinct national and international artists including a concert by Toshi Reagon and her band BIGLovely based in New York, also at The Gleason Room at the Fillmore Miami Beach (1700 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach); La Saraghina de Stalker, a theater company from Madrid, Spain performing at The Gleason Room at the Fillmore Miami Beach (1700 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach); Queer Flamenco with artist/scholar Fernando LR Parra, also from Madrid, Spain at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden (2000 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach) and choreographer and dancer Juan Carlos Lerida from Seville, Spain, presented as a double bill with legendary boundary-breaking artist Belen Maya at The Gleason Room at the Fillmore Miami Beach (1700 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach).
This year’s line-up will also include “Out of the Container”, an LGBTIQ focused series of 15-minute plays with absolute vision and approach, which will run from June 9th to July 10th, 2016 at CCE Miami’s MicroTheater. MicroTheater is a theatrical convention consisting of works of less than 15 minutes in length for a maximum of 15 spectators presented in a 20-foot container. Each work is presented six times each night in continuous sessions.
Out in the Tropics also brings exciting free events including a number of educational activities that will allow audiences more insight into the creative process of the artists presented. The series includes community workshops, lectures and other educational activities at distinct venues throughout the festival. For more information on OITT educational activities please visit our website at www.fundarte.us.
Join FUNDarte for a week of performances, readings, and educational activities provided by local, national and international artists that reflect and address Miami’s contemporary cultural identity, as well as the complex themes of gender politics and LGBT issues locally, nationally and globally.
